Burst Pipes Sutherland Shire

Burst & Leaking Pipes

A burst pipe is an emergency and most common ones we see are flexi hoses. A burst pipe can cause extensive water damage to your entire home.
If you see that a pipe has burst, you need to act quickly.

Go to your water meter and turn the water off and then call a plumber.
A burst water pipe can be either a quick fix or require extensive work to either repair or replace.
A complete replacement generally occurs because the pipes are old or corroded, but even newer home builds may need a replacement if they become damaged beyond repair.

WHEN A WATER PIPE BURSTS OR BREAKS, IT CAN
DO A LOT OF DAMAGE, NOT JUST TO YOUR HOUSEHOLD
POSSESSIONS, BUT TO THE FOUNDATIONS OF YOUR HOUSE.

Fix Burst Pipes and Replace Leaking Pipes

To make matters worse, if the pipe bursts when you are away on holiday, chances are the issue won’t be discovered until you get back, meaning not only do you have to fork out money for the damages, you’re also left with one hefty water bill.
A burst water pipe can be caused by numerous things, but most commonly by:

  • Damaged Joints or Plumbing Connections – These are the most common issue, especially with older houses. A damaged joint or plumbing connection does not need much for it to break and create a bigger problem.
  • Home Renovations – Doing some home renovations is an Australian tradition, but it comes with quite a few headaches if not done by a professional (sometimes even when it is done by one). Digging in the yard and clipping a pipe will set you back more than you bargained for.
  • Extreme Temperatures – Extreme temperatures tend to cause expanding and contracting of the surrounding ground, making it easy for a corroded pipe to shift and split.
  • Water Hammering – this is when you can hear a hammering noise when turning off a tap too quickly, again, making older pipes susceptible to bursting.
